Past Events
Cyber Patriot 2019-20
A competition created to encourage competitors to take part in cybersecurity and STEM related pathways.
The CyberPatriot competition was an event conducted by the Air Force Association that spanned over the course of a few months. The event tested us on Network Security Challenges in the Windows and Linux operating systems, and the Cisco Networking challenge within a six-hour period in the three rounds that we competed in.
HACKTOBER 2020
An event conducted to support the National Cyber Security Awareness Month.
The Hacktober event was a 24-hour Capture the Flag (CTF) in October 2020 that took on a Halloween theme and tested us on Cryptography, steganography, Traffic Analysis, Exploitation, OSINT, Programming, and SQL. There were around 1073 teams competing to get the concealed flags.
PeaCTF
This was a cybersecurity jeopardy tournament for high school level participants,
In this tournament, we got to practice and demonstrate our skills and knowledge in cryptography, hacking, reverse engineering, and decrypting challenges to find the hidden flag.Â
It was a time-based team contest, and there were over
450 teams representing 104 countries!
KringleCon
The SANS Holiday Hack Challenge : a 2020-2021 winter CTF
In this tournament, we got to practice and demonstrate our skills and knowledge in cryptography, forensics, solving terminals using Linux, S3 buckets, and much more.
Our goal was to help find out why Santa is so worried, and the villain is Jack Frost- we could accomplish this by interrogating Santa's elves about objectives and tasks.
Overall, it was a very fun, social, and informative experience because we got to to challenge ourselves and realize what areas of cyber security we need to work on.
AWS GameDay
This event was a hosted by the Women in Cyber Security organization and Amazon Web Services [AWS].
This was an interactive team tournament that gamified a real-world web security scenario that required participants to become comfortable with the AWS interface and use it to solve the prompted security issues as a mock employee at Unicorn Rentals. Through this opportunity, we learned more about AWS architecture and services.
WiCyS CTF
The WiCyS Critical Infrastructure Affiliate CTF was set up by multiple experienced Women in Cybersecurity team leaders.
This event was an exciting capture the flag event designed for people with all levels of cybersecurity experience. Challenges in this event discussed topics such as cryptography, algorithms, network analysis, and more about critical infrastructure and cybersecurity. With a support group of skilled cybersecurity experts, this event allowed us to successfully put our knowledge into practice.
Foothill WiCyS Summer Workshop
July 11, 2021
We hosted this workshop to introduce elementary and middle school girls, who are new to Cybersecurity, to the structure and material of CTFs! It also introduced participants to an actual CTF competition to put the theory they learned from the workshop into practice.
This workshop included topics such as web exploitation, reverse engineering, forensics, and cryptography, along with an actual CTF competition in the end!
